What Is “Freezin’ for Food”?
Organized by the Salvation Army of DeKalb, this food drive takes place each December to give some holiday relief to local families in need. This year’s event saw hundreds of people stop by the Hy-Vee Sycamore to donate cash or non-perishable food items.
Our own marketing and operations coordinator, Stephanie, was interviewed by WLBK Radio to talk about our participation!
How Did Our Trusted Movers Contribute?
Along with encouraging our staff to contribute personally in whatever ways they could, we came together as a team to help this food drive succeed. As a Fox Valley and Chicago moving company, we donated the use of three Go Mini’s portable storage units (and, of course, an expert driver to move them around!).
As donors filled these storage units up with more and more food items, we transferred them to the Salvation Army of DeKalb headquarters for unloading and processing. Last year, we even left the Go Mini’s on site until the Salvation Army could make room for all the food.
Whether for an annual food drive or a more common household or commercial move, these portable storage units offer a convenient, flexible solution for on-demand storage. Since they’re so easy to load and transport, they’re perfect for this event—and we’re very happy to donate them for a few days to help our community out.
When Stephanie was interviewed by WLBK, the “Freezin’ for Food” drive had already raised over 4,000 pounds of food and nearly $3,500 in cash. We look forward to hearing the total amount raised and participating again next year!
